New Competency Portal is now Live!

CDA has today launched a fully functional application to replace the pilot website created at the start of the year. The new site allows data managers to construct verifiable personal skill profiles for well and geophysical data management. Users who were registered on the pilot have had their profiles migrated to the new system. New users are very welcome – please take a look at www.CDACompetency.com

CDA DataStore and DEAL front end Unification – Information Bulletin No.3

The project to unify the CDA DataStores and DEAL into a single system has now been completed.

UKOilandGasData is now available at the following url: www.ukoilandgasdata.com

As the unified system is now effectively a new website, users are strongly advised to set this url as a Trusted Site within the Internet Explorer security settings to get the best performance from the system. A guide detailing the optimum settings is attached.

Users of Internet Explorer 10 and 11 may experience compatibility issues resulting in screen element being misplaced. This is instantly resolved by clicking the Compatibility icon mailbox:///D:/CsSettings/Thunderbird/Mail/localhost-1/Inbox?number=363110175&header=quotebody&part=1.1.2&filename=image001.png in the Internet Explorer tool bar. This will only need to be done once for this site.

Existing accounts and passwords will remain valid and there will be no need to set up a new account or password. An automatic re-direct will be set up on the old URLs for a short period of time.

CDA DataStore and DEAL front end Unification – Information Bulletin No.2

The project currently underway to unify the CDA DataStores and DEAL into a single system is now nearing completion. UKOilandGasData will be rolled out over the weekend of 2nd-3rd November.

The CDA DataStores and DEAL will both experience a period of downtime commencing at 2pm on Friday 1st November in order to roll out the new system. The new system will be up and running before 9am on Monday 4th November. The expectation is that it will actually come up sometime over the weekend but we can’t be sure of the precise timing at this stage.

CDA would like to apologise for the downtime required which will affect all aspects of the service. Users with critical usage requirements will need to make arrangements to do this work beforehand. If for any reason the new system launch encounters a problem then the contingency is for the old system to be reinstated and a new date will be set for the upgrade but we are not expecting any problems. Whatever happens there will be a service available on the Monday morning.

The unified system will use a new, single URL for access. Existing users of DEAL, the CDA Well DataStore or Seismic DataStore who normally log-in via www.cdadatastore.com or www.ukdeal.co.uk will need to use this new URL instead www.ukoilandgasdata.com The new URL is available now but will display a holding page until we go live. This can be set up as a Trusted Site now to save time next week.

Existing accounts and passwords will remain valid and there will be no need to set up a new account or password. An automatic re-direct will be set up on the old URLs for a short period of time.

Once logged in, a user will have the same functionality available to them as before but there will be some minor changes to the system such as the Login Page, User Management Tool and branding.

A Professional Society: Results of the Online Survey

CDA has published a report on the online survey regarding a Professional Society for E&P Data Managers. Analysis of 407 responses reveals that there is strong support for the formation of a society.

The report can be accessed here, and the survey remains open for further participation.

Competency Mapping

CDA completed the maps for well and geophysical data management last year and published them earlier this year as a pilot which allows data managers to construct their own competency profiles and to comment on the content of the maps. Although the pilot is still live, this episode is now drawing to a close. We have learned that the content is pretty robust but that we needed to provide a new solution which was functionally richer and easier to use. We have now signed a licence for a commercial application and are currently importing content from the pilot into this new system, which we expect to go live in the middle of September.

CDA’s role in Education

We have agreed in principle with Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen to build a graduate certificate in Petroleum Data Management. The course will comprise four modules, each with 15 credits recognised under SCQF Level 9 (see www.scqf.org.uk). The course will be offered entirely on-line and would therefore be available internationally. We know this is ambitious, but we are hoping to take the first student cohort in September 2014. We are currently at the early stages of building the curriculum for the first ‘foundation’ module.

CDA is also working with several major oil companies to explore the feasibility of building a post-graduate Masters course in Petroleum Data Management. We are completing an outline proposal, on the back of which we intend to invite more companies to get involved and then to approach a number of candidate universities to ascertain their interest (and conditions).
